Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Rwanda
Chalyan Karén Drastamatovich
The President of the Russian Federation has appointed Karén Drastamatovich CHALYAN Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Rwanda. Mr. Chalyan has extensive experience in the fields of diplomacy and international relations. His service with the Foreign Ministry, which began in 1977, included assignments at Headquarters in Moscow and long-term postings to Nigeria and Botswana. In 1995-2010, Mr. Chalyan served with various field missions of the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations, in the Former Yugoslavia, Liberia and Sudan. In 2010-2017 he held the post of Mission Chief of Staff of the African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur.
Born in 1955, Mr. Chalyan speaks English and Serbian. He is married with two sons.
